I can’t tell you how many times I have thought that I was
capable of doing things on my own. I’m fiercely independent, and I think that
in a way, we all are. This world constantly tells us that we have something to
prove to everyone around us. We have to be the smartest, prettiest, strongest,
most popular… the list goes on and on. And somewhere along the line at one time
or another, we have bought the lie that not only do we have to be all these
things, but we have to do it all on our own. Asking for help translates to
weakness.
Look at what is said in both of these scripture passages
though:
We are not asked to go through this world alone. We are
asked to trust in the Lord and to humble ourselves.
We are not asked to focus on ourselves and our pride. We are
called to come in the name of the Lord, not in our own name or in the name of
the world.
We are asked to abandon a plan that has us building our
house on sand that gets swept away in a storm, and instead to have a foundation
with the Lord our God.
So friends, let’s abandon the sand of the world; the sand
that tells us that if we are failures if we don’t measure up to earthly
standards. Let us instead rest and rise upon the rock of the Lord Our God. For
He is our strength.
